The sun is shining, it's Friday and the start of the three-day Memorial Day weekend is upon us. And if you need a break from the grill, we've compiled a list of our favorite things to do in the area.

1 - Cowboy Capital 5D Barrel Race

Head out to Lone Star Arena Saturday, Sunday and Monday for the Cowboy Capital 5D Barrel Race. Exhibitions are from 8-9:30 a.m. each morning, with competition beginning at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

2 - Rollergirls host paintball tourney

Get in on the action when the Cowboy Capital Rollergirls host a paintball tournament for $15 per person (gun, mask, unlimited air included) at 6 p.m. Friday at the FCS Paintball Facility in Granbury. Paintballs are $19 for 500 unites or $56 for a 2,000 unit case. Team registration is free. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places. For more information, contact 968-6401.

3 - Cool off at Splashville

Grab your shades and a bottle of sunscreen and head to Splashville, which will open for the first time this season from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

4 - Catch local soccer action

Head out to the Stephenville Soccer Complex Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the 13th Annual City of Champions Shootout sponsored by the Stephenville Soccer Association. The annual tournament will begin at 8 a.m. every morning and will feature teams from 6 and under to 14 and under, all fighting for the title of City of Champions trophy.

5 - Brady Hulsey Band at the Vineyards

Gather up the crew, pack a picnic and head to Bluff Dale Vineyards for some tunes. Everything is free except for the beverages from 4-7 p.m. when the Brady Hulsey Band will perform.
