The Stephenville Empire-Tribune once again won several awards in the North East Texas Press Association's Better Newspaper Contest.

The conference was held last week in Durant, Oklahoma, culminating in the awards ceremony on Saturday.

In the Division 2 small dailies, Managing Editor Sara Vanden Berge took fourth place Journalist of the Year honors. Vanden Berge also won first place in column writing with her columns, "The new age quagmire of the young and stupid" and "Existing in the ugly shadow of Facebook."

Staff writer Donnie Bryant and former E-T staff writer Amanda Kimble won fourth place in feature writing.

Sports Editor Brad Keith took first place honors in sports coverage and Russell Huffman won first place in sports photography.

The E-T also received third place in headline writing, third place in special section, second place in general excellence and third place in sweepstakes.
