Teisha King ripped Tarleton State (1-1) for 40 points, 12 rebounds and four assists to lift Texas-Permian Basin (4-0) past the TexAnns 82-79 in overtime in a battle of reigning Division II conference champions at the Falcon Dome in Odessa Tuesday.

King had 11 points in overtime as UTPB, the defending champ of the Heartland Conference upset Lone Star Conference champ Tarleton just hours after the TexAnns made their 2012 debut in the USA Today/Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll at No. 21. Her effort turned back a career night by Tarleton's Cheyenne Berry, who had her first 20 point game as a TexAnn.

Kiara Wright scored four points and Berry and Karli Moore each added two during an 8-0 Tarleton run for a 62-60 lead with 3:20 to go. Moore's jumper gave them the advantage, and after two free throws by King, Wright put the TexAnns back on top with a pair of foul shots of her own.

The game was tied three more times before Berry hit a layup with an assist from Wright that gave the TexAnns a 70-68 advantage with 19 seconds left in regulation, but King dealt an assist to Taniqua Ards on the other end, and Ards hit a game-tying jumper with five seconds left to force overtime.

Peyton Adamson hit a triple and a free throw to give Tarleton a four-point edge with just more than a minute gone in OT, but King answered immediately with a triple and a deuce to put UTPB on top. A layup by King made it 77-74 before an old-fashioned 2-and-1 by Adamson evened it up again with exactly two minutes remaining.

But King hit three free throws over the next 1:43 before a foul shot by LaChrista Nash made it 81-77 with 12 seconds left. King finished UTPB's scoring with another free throw before Wright gave the game its final tally by knocking down a jumper off an assist from Adamson.

The first half was as back-and-forth as the second half and overtime with a total of10 ties and nine lead changes. Tarleton led 38-34 at the break.

King was 14-30 from the floor and 10-15 a the foul stripe. She attempted almost half her team's 63 shots from the floor. Ards had 14 points for UTPB, and Nash added 11.

Berry was 6-12 from the floor and 8-8 from the stripe on her way to 20 Tarleton points. Wright and Adamson each had 17 and Wright also grabbed 11 rebounds.
