Stpehenville (3-2) played its third straight game against an opponent that reached the 2012 state tournament Tuesday night and dominated a Lorena team depleted by graduation for a 2-1 mark during the tough stretch.

The Honeybees jumped ahead 12-1 and led by double digits throughout the second half of a 41-24 victory over Lorena at Gandy Gym.

The Bees also defeated Jim Ned 56-40 and fell to Brock 54-39 during the stretch, and their schedule doesn't get any easier with a home game against defending 3A champ Abilene Wylie on deck next Tuesday.

Lorena was limited to just two field goals in the first half - it was 17-6 Stephenville at the break - and eight for the game with five two-point shots and three 3-pointers.

Stephenville was ahead 10-1 at the end of the first, with Lorena's only point coming on a free throw 6 minutes, 22 seconds into the game. It was 12-1 early in the second before Lorena's first field goal, a layup in transition at the 5:50 mark of the second quarter.

Stephenville's largest lead came at the end of the third quarter at 31-13 before Lorena made a bit of rally to pull within 11 two minutes into the second. But Merideth Culpepper hit a transition layup at the 4:56 mark, and after two Lorena free throws, the senior got loose on the fast break again and scored with 4:03 left. Dally Friedrich assisted on both breakaway baskets to make it 37-24.

A free throw from Breyana Diaz and a two-and-one by Tiara Green sealed it for the Bees, giving them the final six points of the game.

Culpepper finished with nine points while Green and Sheridan Stokes each had six with Stokes also contributing a handful of assists. Breyana Diaz and Leslie Billings each had five, Caitlin Cline and Jaynelle Nowell netted four each and Meagan Parsons completed the balanced scoring effort with two.
