Hico head basketball coach Brad Stegall doesn't mind starting his season late if it means several of his girls are experiencing success in volleyball. He minds it even less if he still starts it with a win.
The Lady Tigers left him pleased on all accounts Tuesday night, making a week-late but still fashionable entry into the 2012-13 hoops campaign with a 62-57 overtime victory at Eastland.
"It was a wild one to start (our season) with," said Stegall. "We look like we're still in a little bit of volleyball mode, but that's natural."
Sierra Kash managed to transfer over to basketball form in time to pour in 19 points, while Brooke Willis netted 13 and Blake Wood and Stacey Underwood added 11 each.
"Four double-digit scorers - if we can get that every game, I can live with that," Stegall said. "That makes you hard to guard when they can't just zero in on one person."
The Lady Tigers poured in 50 points in the second half and overtime after scoring just 12 before the break.
"We did some bad things early, but we came through and did some good things late," Stegall said. "And to top it off we got to work through some situations in an overtime game. It was good for us; we just need to learn from our mistakes."
Ashley McLain scored six and Brionna Stephens had four for Hico, which hosts Millsap at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
