Stephenville (1-1) used three double-digit scoring performances to overcome a sluggish start and beat Early 63-43 Saturday.

Breyana Diaz and Dally Friedrich poured in 14 points each to lead the way, while Merideth Culpepper added 11. Meagan Parsons scored nine and Jaynelle Nowell had eight.

"We started a little sluggish, but we got in a groove later on," said head coach Alan Thorpe. "The kids did a really nice job in the second half."

The Bees will have their full roster available when they host 2A No. 1 Jim Ned at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Sheridan Stokes, Tiara Green and Leslie Billings will return to the hardwood after being a part of the Honeybees' run to the regional finals in volleyball.

"It will be great to have our team all back together. Volleyball had a great run and I'm proud of all those girls and hate that it ended short of their big goal. We would have gladly stuck it out another week if they got to state," Thorpe said. "But at the same time, it will be great to have the gang all back together."

The Bees also picked up five points from Cassidy Cline, and one each from junior varsity players Lyndi Graham and Bethany Boucher, who provided depth while the volleyball team was in the playoffs.
