Class 3A Stephenville competed in the 4A-5A divisions of the 16th annual Ken Gaston Race at the Lake Invitational Thursday and the Honeybees trailed just three 5A schools for fourth in the team standings.
The Yellow Jackets were 11th of 24 teams in the 4A-5A varsity boys division. There were 22 teams in the girls race.
Ashtin Ivey led the Honeybees, placing 13th overall and 10th among team runners. The junior finished the 5-kilometer race in 21 minutes, 12.21 seconds for an average one-mile time of 6:49.
Stephenville had four scoring runners finish in the top 50 of the 157-girl race, with all five coming in among the top 75 for a team score of 167. The Bees finished behind Midlothian (72), Arlington Lamar (105) and Arlington Martin (149). Cedar Hill (233) finished behind Stephenville to round out the top five.
Sophomore Allie Lewis finished 32nd among team runners for the Bees with a time of 22:19.07. She was followed by Shelby Wood (37th, 22:36.76), Peyton Wood (41st, 22:41.74), Emily Dark (47th, 7:20) and Haylee Fritts (75th, 23:36.20).
The Bees had a total time of 1 hour, 51 minutes, 37 seconds with an average time of 22:11.
Walker Loyd led the Jackets once again, finishing the 4A-5A boys 5K in 17:37.67 for 27th place both overall and among team runners. He averaged 5:40 per mile.
Walker was trailed by Ivan Gallego, who was 39th among team runners in 17:53.07. Other Yellow Jackets included Steve Loyola (59th, 18:30.39),
Riley Forehand (63rd, 18:34.13), Brady Cupps (74th, 18:45.73) and Ishmael Torres (97th, 19:18.95).
The junior varsity boys were fifth of 21 teams with Michael Fick placing 11th, William Magana 22nd, Renato Rios 23rd, Christian Ibarra 35th and Garret Cole 41st.
The JV girls were paced by Dulce Mendoza in 18th, followed by Amanda Ensinger in 56th, Savanna Fly in 74th and Avery Contreras in 122nd of 255 runners.
Stephenville returns to action next Wednesday at Brock.
