Tarleton State finds itself in ninth place and 34 shots out of the lead after round one of four at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships.
The TexAnns shot a 50-over par 338 Wednesday at the 6,283-yard Par 72 Persimmon Ridge Golf Course at Louisville, Ky.
Leading Tarleton is Jacqueline Lau with a score of 8-over par 80. Lau struggled mightily on the back nine - where the TexAnns started their day - with a bogey, two double bogeys and a triple bogey. She bounced back with a clean front nine featuring birdie, seven pars and a bogey.
Sharon Lau shot a 13-over 85 for Tarleton, Jessica Pickwick shot a 14-over 86 and Huckabay High School product Sarah Fulfer shot a 15-over 87 to complete the team card. Katy Ward's 16-over 88 did not count in team scoring.
Nova Southeastern (Fla.) leads the team standings at 20-over, followed Florida Southern (+26) and Central Oklahoma (+34).
Abbey Gittings of Nova Southeastern shot an even-par 72 to take the early individual lead.
Rounds 2-4 are Thursday through Saturday.
