Dally Friedrich and Hunter Bernays were fourth and fifth individually and Stephenville was third in girls and fourth in boys in the team standings at the 2011 Stephenville Invitational at Legends Country Club Wednesday.

"Hunter finally put a complete round together," said Stephenville head coach Alan Thorpe, who directed the tournament. "It was a good day for him.

"Dally was up and down a little - I know she wasn't happy three-putting a couple holes - but she's a heck of a competitor," Thorpe added. "She still managed to have a good round like she always does."

Bernays tied for fourth, which meant a scorecard playoff. One by one, coaches compared scores on holes beginning with the toughest handicap. They reached the 17th hole before finding a par to Bernays' bogey, and the senior Jacket settled for fifth.

"I've never seen a 17-hole scorecard playoff," one visiting coach said with a laugh. "That was worth the trip."

Melissa and Clifton certainly made the trip worthwhile, capturing the girls and boys championships, respectively.

Sydney Williams paced the Melissa girls to a 360 total, taking the top spot on the individual leader board with a round of 74. Clifton's girls were second at 385, Stephenville third at 402.

Red Oak Life's Danny De Los Santos fought through the wet, windy conditions for an even par 72 to win on the boys side.

Clifton's team win came on a fifth-score playoff. Teams count their four best individual rounds, with the fifth only coming into play in the case of a tie. Second-place Crawford also shot 356.

Krum finished in 366, four shots ahead of Stephenville No. 1. But the Yellow Jackets could have easily joined the group at 356, Thorpe says.

"Normally Tristan Dobson would be with us and he shot an 88 today, which would have made us 14 strokes better," Thorpe said. "I'll have to look back over all our scores and make some decisions this week about who our five guys are going to be on the No. 1 team."

Stephenville No. 2 boys finished fifth at 394 while the No.3 team scored 484.
