After some early fireworks, it looked as if both defenses might hold steady. Carly Coate had other plans.

The Stephenville sophomore took an assist from freshman Cassidy Cline and placed the ball in the back of the net for a 2-1 Honeybees lead that stood up for a win over Abilene Wylie at Lem Brock Field Tuesday.

Cline had the Honeybees' first goal, putting one home just seven minutes after Wylie struck first in the eighth minute of the game.

The Bees were without sweeper Kayla Pyburn because of a red card issued against Brownwood, but freshman Lyndi Graham filled in and aced the biggest test of her young career. Freshman Madison Kalsbeek and junior Adriana Torquemada also stepped up, filling Graham's regular position at outside defender.

The Bees finish District 7-4A play at San Angelo Lake View Friday. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. with the varsity boys match to follow at 7 p.m.
