It's been three months since Cheyane Basham, a 2010 graduate of Stephenville High School, was seriously injured in an automobile accident.

In December, Basham and a friend were traveling in a Jeep on U.S. Hwy. 281 when slick roads caused the driver to lose control and land upside.

While the driver, Alex Alvarado, escaped with minor injuries, Basham sustained a broken back and spent weeks in a Fort Worth Hospital.

With no insurance, Basham and her family face a long road of rehabilitation and mounting medical expenses.

"Cheyane is doing really well and is getting ready to start rehab," said her mother, Theresa Chipman. "She still can't work because she can't stand up for very long and is living at home."

To help with medical expenses, Cheyane's friends have organized a fundraiser Sunday at 4C's Arena located at 2206 FM 205 in Stephenville.

Gates open at 11 a.m. and the fun begins at noon with a silent auction, team roping, bull riding and live music by the Mike Stanley Band, Dolly Shine and the Clint Levi Band. Admission is $10 for adults and free for children 12 and under.
