Gov. Rick Perry has proclaimed Saturday a "day of prayer and fasting for our nation to seek God's guidance and wisdom in addressing the challenges that face our communities, states and nation."
Locally, a solemn assembly has been organized to allow the pious to gather in unity.
"Erath County is facing the same dangers facing the nation as a whole," said Pastor Ed Dittfurth with Cornerstone Assembly of God.
Dittfurth believes Perry's call to prayer is something felt in the hearts and minds of all Christians, some who feel drawn to the Houston gathering, but unable to attend.
The faithful are invited to join in prayer at 7:30 p.m. at Birdsong Amphitheater at Stephenville City Park Saturday. Dittfurth said in addition to the issues affecting all Americans, they will pray for an end to the drought grasping the county and state.
"We all have issues weighing on our hearts and minds," Dittfurth said."They may be out of our control, but we can turn our hearts and minds to Heaven and God will hear our call. He has the power to ease the burdens and end the struggles if we put our faith in Him."
