Two Tarleton State basketball players earned weekly Lone Star Conference honors, league officials in Richardson announced Tuesday afternoon.
Tarleton women’s standout Brittnie Haley has been named the South Division Offensive Player of the Week while Jeremiah Wilson earned South Defensive Player of the Week accolades on the men’s side.
Haley, a 5-11 junior forward from Duncanville, averaged 16.3 points per game over the last week, helping the TexAnns to a 2-1 record over that span. Tarleton is 10-1 overall, marking the first time in school history the women’s program has earned 10 wins before Jan. 1.
Haley, who shot 46.7 percent from the floor in the three games, scored a season-high 21 points against Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday.
She made her last 14 free throw attempts against Southeastern Oklahoma then combined to go 7-7 at the line against Southwestern Oklahoma and Cameron, giving her an impressive streak of 21 consecutive successful attempts from the charity stripe. Haley also had 18 rebounds - including eight on the offensive end - during the three game stretch.
Wilson, a 6-8 senior power forward from Chicago, has been one of the driving forces behind the Texans’ current three-game win streak. He averaged 9.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per contest during that stretch, and led Tarleton in rebounding in all three games.
Wilson made his first two starts of the season against Southwestern Oklahoma and Cameron and responded with back-to-back double-doubles, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds against SWOSU and tallying 13 in both categories against CU.
On the defensive end, Wilson had eight defensive rebounds against Southwestern and seven against Cameron while blocking four SWOSU shots on his way to tallying six total blocks during the last three games. He also collected four steals during that stretch.
