An event 118 years in the making will come to fruition at the Dublin Dr Pepper Bottling Company.

Dublin Dr Pepper will celebrate its official state Texas Historical Marker at 10:24 a.m. Saturday.

The historical marker, which Special Events Coordinator Lori Dodd said has been in the works for more than five years, officially marks the plant as the oldest of its kind.

“It’s wonderful to be recognized for being in business for 118 years,” Dodd said. “It is also wonderful to be recognized by the great state of Texas for being the oldest soft drink bottling company in the world. We are really pleased the Texas Historical Commission is giving us this honor on Saturday.”

The public is invited to attend the ceremony and share free Dublin Dr Pepper and cake afterwards. Pretty Peggy Pepper will also make an appearance as the company gives away free door prizes and sells commemorative shirts.

John Storie will provide Texas country music while folks tour the plant and discover why its rich history earned the bottling company a spot on Texas’ historical map.
