Having family over for Thanksgiving? Don’t really want to cook and clean up afterwards? Don’t really know where to go? Who’d be open on Thanksgiving Day? Jake and Dorothy’s - that’s who!
While other restaurants like Chili’s, Fiddle Creek and Cotton Patch are closing to allow their employees time with families, Jake and Dorothy’s is staying open so you can spend more time with yours.
“The day falls on my birthday this year so I’m off, but that wasn’t the case last year,” said one waitress, who is glad to have the holiday off.
But others will be there on Thursday dishing up turkey to hungry patrons. The task of getting employees to work on the holiday wasn’t as hard as some would have believed said head waitress Lorene Johnston. She said that most of the employees who were working on Thursday were actually working on a volunteer basis.
Castillo’s, the only other restaurant that will be open, are serving their regular menu and would like to remind everyone that in addition to Thanksgiving, they will also be open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
“We’re serving a full, traditional Thanksgiving dinner with turkey and dressing, stuffing, cranberry sauce, green beans and rolls,” said Johnston. “We’ll be open our regular business hours for everyone who wants to get out.”
