Thanks to its 44-32 victory over Midwestern State Saturday, Tarleton has moved to No. 4 in the Southwest Region.
Chadron State of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference continues to hold the top spot in the poll, released Monday by the NCAA.
Following Chadron at No. 2 is West Texas A&M. Perennial power NW Missouri State holds down the third spot, with Tarleton fourth.
Mesa State is No. 5, while Washburn sits in the No. 6 slot.
The top six schools in the final regional poll will advance to the Southwest bracket of the national playoffs.
On the outside looking in are No. 7 Abilene Christian and No. 8 Midwestern. Rounding out the top 12 are No. 9 Missouri Western, No. 10 Pittsburg State, No. 11 Nebraska-Kearney and No. 12 Central Missouri.
The Texans return to action Saturday at Eastern New Mexico. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CST (6 p.m. MST).
