Aledo posted a .442 hitting percentage and used big scoring runs in each set to sweep Stephenville 25-15, 25-16, 25-22 at Gandy Gym Tuesday night.
The Lady Cats took the lead for good with a 5-0 push after trailing 8-6 in the opening set, then used an 8-0 run to overcome a 10-8 deficit in the second. The Honeybees looked to stave off elimination when they led 19-16 in the third, but Aledo rallied again, this time with a 6-0 surge.
The Bees (10-13) hit just .065 and tallied only 18 assists in the loss, their second straight after winning seven of eight.
Aledo seemed to get to everything defensively.
"Their defense is solid," said Stephenville head coach Fran Metzger. "They're solid all the way around."
Junior middle blocker Natalie Tiner had four solo blocks, five block assists and five kills to lead the Stephenville charge up front, and also racked up eight digs when she rotated to the back.
Kristin Kaiser, a junior outside hitter, matched Tiner with five kills and led the Bees in aces with three and digs with 12.
Leslie Billings contributed four kills and a pair of block assists while Dani Huckabee added three kills, a solo block and two block assists to go with seven digs.
Sheridan Stokes had nine assists and seven digs while Tiara Green had seven of each.
Aledo won its third straight over Stephenville, including eliminating the Bees in the area round of last year's 4A playoffs.
"What's killing us is our passing. We're passing the ball straight up," said Metzger. "You can't pass the ball so far from the net. Our setters turn around and have no options.
"There are some things we can learn from this," she added. "We can go back and look at a lot of things we need to work on."
Stephenville visits Mansfield Timberview at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
