In just its second year as an athletic entity, Stephenville Faith is adding to the program.
The local home school group will begin its first volleyball season at 6 p.m. Monday against Mineral Wells Community Christian. All home games will be at the Stephenville City Park Rec Hall on Long Street.
Tarleton State University strength and conditioning coach Rod Cole was recently named the athletic director of the Stephenville Faith programs and has been working for months to create a volleyball team for the upcoming season.
"My daughter is a junior and has played volleyball since the sixth grade," said Cole. "She played for Mineral Wells Community Christian last year and we didn't really want to keep making that trip. We started asking around here and when we drew enough interest, we made the team and have been practicing since Aug. 1."
Stephenville Faith has 12 games scheduled and is a part of a three-team district in the Texas Christian Athletic League. The district opponents are Cleburne Christian and Corsicana Agape.
The coach is Jennifer Andis and the assistant coach is Stacey Cole.
"My family has been a part of home schools in College Station and Manhattan, Kan. and it's always interesting when you get programs started," said Rod Cole. "Once it gets going, though, kids want to play.
"It's a great opportunity that doesn't exist unless someone jumps in and gets it going," he added.
Cole says Faith will also be adding boys basketball this winter.
