Brock Holt hit the first home run of his professional career and the first dinger of the season for the State College Spikes Sunday night in a 5-4 home loss to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers at Lubrano Park in State College, Pa.

Holt, the starting second baseman and leadoff hitter for State College, also helped turn a double play in the loss, which dropped the Spikes to 4-6 on the season.

The 2006 graduate of Stephenville High School is 4-23 at the plate in seven starts since his debut on June 22, giving him a batting average of just .174.  His on-base percentage is .269.

The solo home run also gave Holt, 21, his first professional RBI and second run scored for State College, which is a Class A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
