The Tarleton womenís basketball team will give their fans a preview of the upcoming 2009-10 season as the TexAnns host the University of Texas at Dallas in an exhibition game at Wisdom Gym tonight. Admission is free of charge.

The TexAnns will open the 2009-10 regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. when they host Texas-Permian Basin.

The TexAnns return 11 players from last seasonís squad that went 16-12 overall and 7-5 in the Lone Star Conference South Division. Tarleton returned to the LSC Tournament for the sixth consecutive season, falling the in the first round to LSC North Division Champion Central Oklahoma, 66-63.

JoAnne Jones returns to the team as the lone senior on the squad. She led the team in points and rebounds averaging a little over 13 points and seven rebounds per game last season. She led the TexAnns in blocked shots as well with 54 on the season Ė the second-most in a single-season and four blocks shy of tying the school record.

Also returning the team is All-LSC Honorable Mention selections Sonya Sundberg and Shelby Adamson. Sundberg led the offense with 118 assists last season, while Adamson led the team defensively with 59 steals.

Another notable returner to this yearís team will be Brittnie Haley. Haley was leading the team in points and rebounds in a few years ago before an injury sidelined her for the rest of 2007-08 and all of 2008-09.

The TexAnns were picked to finish second in the south division behind last seasonís south division and LSC Tournament champions West Texas A&M, according to the preseason poll released back on Oct. 27.

UT-Dallas, a NCAA Division III member institution, went 21-5 overall and 18-3 in the American Southwest Conference while capturing the East Division crown in the process. The Cometsí season quickly came to an end in the first round of the ASC Tournament as No. 1 seeded UT-Dallas were upset, 57-48, to Mary Hardin-Baylor.

The Comets head into 2009-10 with a roster that did not lose anyone to graduation, returning key players like Chelsea Edwards and Lauren Hale for their senior seasons.

The Comets were preseason-ranked 17th, according to a poll released by D3Hoops.com.

Tip-off at Wisdom Gym on Tuesday is scheduled for 6 p.m.
