GOODYEAR, Ariz – The Tarleton TexAnn golf team’s undefeated winning streak was ended Tuesday as the TexAnns finished third at the Grand Canyon Women’s Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz.
The TexAnns, who shot a two-day total of 620, were in fourth after the first day of competition, but Tarleton couldn’t overcome the six-stroke lead St. Edward’s held after day one. SEU tied with California Baptist and lost to CBU on a scorecard playoff.
Tarleton was led by Carla Cooper as she tied for fifth with a 151 (76-75). Andrea Lowe tied for 12th with a two-day total of 154 (76-78) while Shraddhanjali Singh shot a 156 (80-76) to tie for 18th. Maury Shock shot a 159 (81-78) and Melanie Tham shot a 163 (85-78) for the TexAnns.
Stephanie Bird of Northeastern State won the individual title with a 147 (71-76).
The TexAnns finished ahead of Lone Star Conference schools Northeastern State (630), Central Oklahoma (640), West Texas A&M (642) and Texas A&M-Commerce (677). Other teams from the West Region behind the TexAnns were Western Washington (628), Western New Mexico (630), Cal State-Monterey Bay (632), Chico State (650), Dallas Baptist (653), Grand Canyon (673), St. Mary’s (674) and Montana State-Billings (716).
Tarleton will return to action at the LSC Championships in Thackerville, Okla. at the Winstar Golf Club April 20-22.
