On a night when nothing else went right, shooting guard Tyrone Cole-Scott bailed No. 19 Tarleton State out with eight three pointers and 28 points, leading the Texans past upset-minded Texas-Permian Basin, 65-57, in Wisdom Gym Friday.
UTPB led 46-40 midway through the second half before Cole-Scott nailed a three and the Texans looked more focused down the stretch.
Jeremiah Wilson had eight points and 13 boards for the Texans, Monquel Pegues scored nine and grabbed nine boards and Eric Williams posted seven and seven for the Texans, who improved to 3-0.
UTPB, which fell to 2-1, was led by Rob Harris with 26 points and Quentin Lipkins with 15.
The win capped the first night of action in the Texan Tipoff Classic. Saturday’s play concluded with the Texans taking on NCAA Division I Texas A&M-International.
