Stephenville (3-0) led by as many as 27 points and was never in danger Tuesday night, thumping host Copperas Cove 71-55 in girls basketball action.
The Honeybees did suffer a big loss in the game, however, as guard Kelsey Evans went down three minutes into the third quarter with a hyperextended elbow. Stephenville head coach Alan Thorpe says Evans is hoping for a quick return, but could possibly be out as long as 10 days.
“I hope she’s able to play, especially with the teams we have coming up,” said Thorpe, whose club faces Cleburne, Springtown and Keller over the next week.
When Evans was on the floor she scored eight points and helped the Bees jump out to a 59-32 third-quarter lead.
“We played great for 2-1/2 quarters,” Thorpe said. “We got into a 2-3 zone in the fourth and got everyone into the game and (Copperas Cove) got desperate and started trapping us and shooting threes, but for the most part we played real well.”
Brianna Bledsoe led Stephenville in scoring again with 21 points while Alex Huckabee drained five three-point bombs and finished with 17. Mara Christian was also in double figures with 10.
Others contributing to the win included Gabby Lazarine with eight, Kyndra Schouten with five and Hillary Laursen with two.
