Stephenville managed only 15 points from players not named Victor Martinez as they fell to Belton on Friday, 57-39.
Martinez was the highlight of the Yellow Jacket offense, posting 24 points, but the rest of the Jackets couldn't get anything going.
“Our inside game was not what it should've been,” said Stephenville head coach Mike Dacus. “We couldn't score down low, and we didn't get rebounds. Eventually we just quit going inside, our guards didn't get it in. I don't know if it was the two-and-a-half-hour bus ride or what, but we seemed to be a step slow all night.
“Belton was mostly a guard team,” he continued. They put up a lot of outside shots, but we were in foul trouble all night. Garrett (Autrey) and Victor (Martinez) had some early fouls.”
Stephenville, 1-1, will travel to Fort Worth Brewer on Monday for a match-up with the Bears.
“We're going to work on our offense (before our next game),” said Dacus. “We're not patient enough, and we need to take better shots.”
