SAN ANTONIO - The Tarleton Texan baseball team dropped its non-conferece road game to Incarnate Word, falling 10-4 to Incarnate Word at Sullivan Field in San Antonio on Tuesday.
The loss dropped the Texans to 12-15-1 overall while the Cardinals improved to 19-7 on the season.
The Texans broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the sixth inning with an RBI single by Aaron Dalton and an RBI bunt-single by Bucky Squyres. That put Tarleton on top 4-2, but back-to-back four run innings from the Cardinals proved to be too much for the visting Texans.
Tarleton's Aaron Craver (0-3) took over mound duties in the bottom of the sixth inning but was unable to record an out before loading the bases and walking in a run. Garrett Woods came in to relieve him but an RBI gound out followed by a two-RBI double put the Cardinals on top 6-4.
The Cardinals added four more runs on three hits and one error in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull away with a 10-4 victory.
Craver was handed the loss after being charged with all four runs in the sixth inning. UIW's Brian Hickman (2-0) earned the win in releif for the Cardinals.
The Texans will return to Lone Star Conference action this weekend with a four-game series against East Central in Stephenville. Doubleheaders are set for Friday and Satruday at Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex. Game one of Friday's doubleheader is set to begin at 3 p.m.
