SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Tarleton women's tennis team will begin the spring season ranked No. 14 in the nation and No. 2 in the South Central Region according to a poll released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

The No. 14 ranking marks the highest ranking ever for a TexAnn team to begin the season.

"Our tennis program has been blessed with student-athletes who love to compete and that have the desire to continue to improve," Tarleton head coach Lance Drake said. "These rankings are not always just given. They must be earned. This has been a continuing process as our former players committed to a program not well know for tennis and all of them worked hard for it to be successful."

Nationally, six teams from the Lone Star Conference were ranked in the top 40 with Abilene Christian taking the highest spot at No. 7. Armstrong Atlantic, an accredited unit of the University System of Georgia, topped the poll at No. 1.

Chrissie Cooper will head into the season ranked No. 47 overall in singles play. Alicia Cummings, a former LSC Player of the Year, was the last TexAnn player to obtain a national ranking in singles during the 2005-06 season.
