Hico head girls basketball coach Larry Holder expected Coleman to provide his No. 14 ranked Lady Tigers (11-1) with a good test.
Instead, his club served up another reminder of how they have progressed to become one of the premier 2A teams in the area, cruising past the Lady Cats 52-27.
“We did a good job early with our press and forced a bunch of turnovers,” Holder said.
Hico pulled out of the press after building a 21-point halftime lead, but Holder said his team still accomplished some important tasks in the second half.
“We got everyone into the game,” he said. “That was important because we have some girls who needed to gain experience before we start district next week.”
Hico was led by Cara Finstad with 18 points. Crystal Zuniga followed closely with 17 while Cassi Stegall had 12.
The Lady Tigers are one of several area teams competing in tournament action in Lingleville today through Saturday. They then begin Disrict 16-2A action at McGregor on Tuesday.
