It’s deja vu at Tarleton State.
The Texans, ranked No. 19 in this week’s American Football Coaches Association top 25 poll, face a must-win against No. 9 West Texas A&M in the season finale in order to get into the playoffs.
Or do they?
Tarleton, 8-2, is currently No. 6 in the Super Region 4 Poll - the top six advance to the national playoffs - ahead of Nebraska-Omaha who already has three losses, Central Oklahoma and Midwestern State, teams the Texans beat by 20-plus points, and a Central Missouri team that has four defeats.
While Tarleton may have a slim chance of getting the No. 6 nod even with a loss on Saturday, the Texans are hoping not to have to count on that card after it failed them each of the last three seasons.
Tarleton fell to WT in finales with playoff hopes on the line by counts of 39-14 last year, 21-16 in 2006 and 30-26 in 2005.
The Texans are also No. 20 in this week’s D2football.com poll, while WT is No. 9.
