The call is out to honor the athletic accomplishments of past Yellow Jackets and Honeybees.

Nominations are now being accepted for the Stephenville Independent School District Athletic Hall of Fame.

Athletes enshrined in the hall, which is sponsored by the Stephenville Lions Club and the school district, will be honored with a luncheon this fall and at the Yellow Jackets’ Oct. 19 football game versus Cleburne.

In lieu of a nomination form, fans may submit a “letter recommending any former SHS athlete or coach, club member Mark Kaiser said. The letter should include the nominee’s current address, a list of the sports the nominee played at SHS and the nominee’s accomplishments in those sports.

“Even though individuals are not eligible for induction until five years after they graduate, we want all nominations that would be recommended,” Kaiser said. “We keep a file of all nominations for possible future selection.”

According to the selection criteria provided by Kaiser, “athletes for induction into the Hall of Fame will be judged solely on athletic performance as a student at Stephenville High School. No consideration will be given performances with a university or college, semi-professional or professional teams.”

Athletes must have played a major sport at least two years. For coaches to be considered for induction, five years of service at the high school is necessary, along with “a favorable record in that sport.”

Last year’s class of inductees included Stephen Bethea, Kendal Briles, Jess Elliott and Tod Ryden.
