Tarleton improved on day two of four at the NCAA?Division II Women’s Golf Championships at Memorial Park in Houston Tuesday, but continued to lose strokes on the leading teams from Nova Southeastern and Rollins.
The TexAnns improved three strokes to 310 after completing Monday’s opening round in 313. Nova Southeastern leads at 292-295=587, followed by Rollins at 293-301=594. Ferris State (296-308=604) is third while Grand Valley State (314-296=610) and Western Washington (304-306=610) are tied for fourth.
Tarleton is sixth, while Neb.-Omaha (319-318=637) and Augustana College (319-321=640) complete the team statndings.
Independent player Heather Burgner of Florida Southern (70-74=144) is tied with Joanna Coe of Rollins (71-73=144) and Taylor Collins of Nova Southeastern (74-70=144) at even par atop the individual leaderboard.
Shraddhanjali Singh (76-74=150) continues to lead the TexAnns at six over par. The sophomore started on the back nine Tuesday and went three over, but came back to birdie the par-5 eighth giving her a front nine score of one under. The West Region champ is tied for 11th overall.
Carla Cooper (76-80=156) is second on the Tarleton card and tied for 28th individually after going eight over in round two.
Andrea Lowe recovered from an opening round 81 with a 77 for a two day total of 158, while Melanie Tham played the front nine in one over to finish out the TexAnns’ team card with a 79. Tham has a two-day total of 161.
Maury Shock dropped three strokes Tuesday, going from 80 to 83 for a total of 163.
Round three begins shortly after noon today, with Shock scheduled to lead the TexAnns out with a 12:27 tee time.
