Lipan ran away from Huckabay's girls in the second half, breaking open a 25-25 tie at the break and winning the Class A girls basketball battle 49-36 Tuesday night at Huckabay High School.

"I felt like it was a lot closer than the score indicated," Huckabay head coach Caleb Walls said. "We just came out flat in the third quarter. Lipan jumped out to a 10-point lead and we never recovered."

Huckabay was led in scoring by Kyla Stewart with 18 points ,while Maggie Weiss added nine.

Huckabay returns to action in a tournament hosted by Graford today-Saturday. The Lady Indians open the event against Throckmorton, which was ranked No. 4 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and No. 7 by the Texas Girls Coaches Association when the organizations released their preseason polls.

"It will be a tough challenge," Wall said. "They have a dominant inside girl and we have some big girls, too, so it should be a good one."
