Hico’s Cassi Stegall scored 26 points in back-to-back games last week, leading the Lady Tigers past Hillsboro and Meridian for a 2-0 start on the basketball hardwood.
Hico raced out to a 28-2 lead at the end of the first quarter in the season opener against 3A Hillsboro, and never looked back in a 69-28 win.
Stegall got plenty of support from Cara Finstad, who scored 17, Cristina Sanchez with 10 and Janna Marshall with 9. Tristan Till chipped in three for the Lady Tigers, while Cheyenne Polk and Claudia Zuniga each added two.
Hico got more of a push from Class A Meridian after a poor first quarter left the Lady Tigers in a seven-point hole.
Another big night from Stegall paced the steady comeback, however, as HHS shaved three points off the derficit in the second to trail 29-25 at the half. The teams traded 14 points each in the third before Hico used an 18-12 fourth-quarter rally to come from behind.
Finstad joined Stegall in double figures with 16, giving the high-scoring duo a combined 85 points for the week.
Sanchez added four against Meridian while Claudia Zuniga and Marshall each scored three, Till and Cristal Zuniga both added two and Polk hit a free throw.
The Lady Tigers look to remain unbeaten tonight when they host De Leon, before holding JV and varsity tournaments in Hico beginning Thursday.
