The state soccer playoffs are fast approaching, and both Stephenville teams have already punched their tickets in Class 4A.
The Yellow Jackets and Honeybees are both guaranteed to finish in the top three with two district contests remaining, but the coaches know there’s still work to be done.
“We know we’re in, but we need to take care of business and make sure we finish second and not third,” said Jackets coach Ramsay Wright.
The Stephenville boys fell to district champ Abilene Wylie, 4-0, on Monday.
The Honeybees, meanwhile, were undermanned in a 1-0 loss to Wylie in Stephenville. The Bees were without six players who all served one-game suspensions because of actions during a brawl at the conclusion of last Friday’s win at Copperas Cove.
“We’re just glad that game’s behind us,” Bees coach Casey Weil said. “Now we can move on.”
Both teams battle San Angelo Lakeview tonight. The boys are observing their final home game and Senior Night, while the girls are on the road.
Action home and away begins with JV competition at 5:30 p.m., followed by varsity play at 7:30 p.m.
