E-T Staff Report
Stephenville native Brock Holt didn’t exactly have the professional baseball debut he dreamed of Monday night.
Holt, who started at second base and hit in the leadoff position for the State College Spikes, went 0-5 at the plate including a pair of strikeouts. The Spikes lost 7-6 to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to fall to 1-3 on the year.
Holt, who went from Stephenville High School to Navarro College and then to Rice before getting drafted in the ninth round by the Pittsburgh Pirates after his recently completed junior season, made his debut after missing the Spikes’ opening games while awaiting contract approval and a physical.
State College is one of Pittsburgh’s Single-A affiliates.
