E-T Staff Report Tarleton State is favored to win the South Division of the Lone Star Conference in men's basketball, according to the pre-season poll released at the first annual LSC basketball media day in Bartlesville, Okla. Wednesday.
The Texans were the top pick on 12 of the 20 ballots cast. West Texas A&M picked up five first place votes and finished second, while Midwestern State finished third and was given the first-place nod on three ballots. Angelo State is picked to finish fourth followed by Texas A&M-Kingsville, Eastern New Mexico and Abilene Christian, respectively.
Tarelton has been tabbed third in the women's poll.
The TexAnns are picked to finish behind WTAMU and Abilene Christian, respectively. Behind Tarleton is No. 4 ASU. Midwestern is No. 5 followed by No. 6 Texas Women's, No. 7 Eastern New Mexico and No. 8 TAMK.
The top four in each division qualify for the conference tournament. For the first time in conference history, the tournament will be held in a neutral location. Bartlesville will host the event, bringing the men's and women's tournaments together.
The North Division is expected to send Central Oklahoma as its top seed in men's ball, joined by Texas A&M-Commerce, Southwestern Okla. St. and Southeastern Okla. St.
The top four in the women's North Division poll are Texas A&M Commerce at No. 1, followed by Central, Northeastern State and Southeastern.
