SAN ANGELO - The Tarleton Texan baseball team dropped the first game of its weekend series with Angelo State, 6-2, on Friday night at Foster Field in San Angelo.
Danny Morris (4-1) got the start for Tarleton and suffered his first loss as a member of the Texan pitching staff. The Texans fell to 9-8 on the season and 4-5 in Lone Star Conference play.
Sean Winscher (5-0) gave up just two runs on three hits, picking up the win for the Rams who improved to 12-5 overall and 7-2 in the conference.
ASU scored first, getting two runs in the first inning on a single from Charley Belew that scored Jimmy Cox and Clay Calfee. The Rams then brought two more runs across in the second inning on Calfee's two-RBI single to give ASU a comfortable 4-0 lead.
Charlie Ulbricht singled home Chase Cundiff in the fourth inning to put the Texans on the board to make it a 4-1 game.
Greg Sillivent's double in the eighth inning scored Justin Davis, but the Rams added insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings whle Winscher did the rest of the damage on the mound.
Winscher struck out six Texan batters and walked just two in 8.0 innings of work. Corey Morehouse came on to pitch the ninth inning to close out the game for the Rams.
Morris gave-up a seson-high 12 hits in 6.2 innings of work before Miguel Castro came in to pitch the final 1.1 innings.
Peacock put-up the only other hit for the Texans on an infield single in the Tarleton fourth inning.
Cox finished with three hits for the Rams.
