The 2008 Lone Star Conference Volleyball Championship field has been set and will begin Thursday, Nov. 13 at WTAMU Fieldhouse in Canyon.

The Tarleton State TexAnns finished the regular season 10-3 in conference play and earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament.  This marks the third straight season the TexAnns earned a spot in the tournament and the fourth overall.  The No. 2 spot is the highest seeding for a TexAnn team in school history.

Ranked No. 4 nationally, West Texas A&M earned the right to host the event as the LSC regular season champion, going undefeated (13-0) in conference play for the third striaght season.

Abilene Christian (No. 3), Midwestern State (No. 4), Texas Woman’s (No. 5), Angleo State (No. 6), Texas A&M-Commerce (No. 7) and Central Oklahoma (No. 8) round out the rest of the tournament field.

The eight-team, single-elimination tournament consists of four first-round matches on Thursday, followed by two semifinal games on Friday evening and the championship match on Saturday night.

The top eight teams in the LSC will compete for the 2008 conference title.  In addition to winning the conference crown, the LSC champions will receive the leagues automatic berth into the NCAA Division II Championship tournament.

All the championship games will be aired live via internet video streaming at www.lonestarconference.tv.  The webcasts are available free of charge.  Each webcast includes both video and audio, with viewers needing only a computer with a high-speed DSL or cable modem connection to the internet.  Veteran broadcaster Chris Needham has the call for all the games.

Action starts on Thursday at 12 p.m. with No. 3 Abilene Christian against No. 6 Angelo State followed by No. 2 Tarleton State versus No. 7 Texas A&M-Commerce at 2:30 p.m., No. 4 Midwestern State against No. 5 Texas Womans at 5 p.m. and No. 1 WTAMU versus No. 8 Central Oklahoma at 7:30 p.m.

WTAMU won the 2007 LSC volleyball championship with a 3-0 victory over Central Oklahoma in Canyon.
