SAN ANGELO - Tarleton State (22-4, 9-2) overcame large early deficits to trail by only two, 30-28, to Angelo State at halftime of the Lone Star Conference South Division finale for both schools at the Junell Center Saturday.

Tarleton trailed 8-0 before finally getting on the board, and eventually trailed 13-3.

The Texans answered with a 12-3 run of their own later in the half, but never led during the first 20 minutes.

Avery Patterson and Eric Williams each scored 6 points to lead the Texans.

Tarleton will be the No. 2 seed in the South entering the LSC Tournament in Bartlesville, Okla. this week.

The Texans face Northeastern State, the No. 3 seed from the North Division in quarterfinal action at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Bruin Field House.

The semifinals of the tournament are set for Friday, with the championship game to follow on Saturday.
