DALLAS — After trailing by one stroke on Monday, the Tarleton TexAnn golf team led by Jacqueline Lau claimed its third straight tournament of the season, winning the Dallas Baptist Classic by five strokes.
Tarleton shot a 288 on Monday and trailed Central Oklahoma by one stroke, but the TexAnns’ Tuesday total of 300 was six strokes better than the Bronchos’ 306, and Tarleton won the event with a 588 team score.
Lau won the individual title with a 143 after shooting a two-under par 70 on Monday followed by a 73 on Tuesday. Carla Cooper finished third with a 147 (74-73) while Katy Ward tied for fourth with a 148 (72-76). Sharon Lau tied for seventh with a 150 (72-78) and Melanie Tham finished tied for 46th with a 166 (86-80). Sarah Fulfer competed as an individual medalist, and the freshman tied for 35th with a 163 (84-79).
Following Tarleton and UCO was St Edward’s (615), Northeastern State (625), West Texas A&M (629), Dallas Baptist (633), Cameron (641), Angelo State (651), Arkansas-Fort Smith (652), Northwood (653), Texas A&M-Commerce (654), East Central (659), Oklahoma Baptist (686), Lincoln (698) and St. Mary’s (699).
Tarleton will return to action in its final tournament of the fall season on Oct. 25-26 at the Oklahoma Collegiate Invitational at the Territory Golf and Country Club in Duncan, Okla. The event will be hosted by Cameron.
