RIO VISTA - Dublin forced seven Rio Vista turnovers Friday in a 28-6 win in District 11-2A action.

The Lions picked off five passes and recovered two Rio Vista fumbles to shut down an Eagle offense that lost quarterback Preston Ray on a big hit in the second period.

Dublin (5-2, 1-1) didn’t waste anytime making its first defensive statment, as Mike Gonzales ended a promising Rio Vista drive to start the game with an interception and 73-yard touchdown return.

Gonzales would later score on a 12 yard run early in the fourth to give the Lions a 21-6 edge.

Leading the Dublin defense was Wesley Leyendekker with 15 tackles. He was one of four Lions in double figures, as DeWayne Keith registered 14 stops, Logan Morton made 13 and DJ Sani had 10.

Keith and Sani also scored on offense to pace the Dublin win.

Keith ran for an 18-yard touchdown in the second, and Sani put the final points on the board with a five yard scoring run in the fourth.

Morris praised Sani, saying, “He played every snap of the game for us. He never asks to come out and he always plays hard.”
