Press Release

The Stephenville High School Athletic Hall of Fame selection committee is currently seeking nominations of athletes and coaches who have made outstanding contributions to the Stephenville High School athletic program.

The committee is in need of information sheets on the outstanding accomplishments of all former athletes and coaches as soon as possible. Forms are available on-line at http://www.stephenvillelions.com/shshofnomination.pdf or at the high school athletics office. Submitting information at the end of an athlete's career or a coach's service at SHS is encouraged while the accomplishments are easy to recall. All nominations and information are kept on file for possible selection.

To be considered for induction to the Stephenville High School Athletic Hall of Fame an athlete must have participated in a major sport at least two years. Major sports will be defined as any University Interscholastic League (UIL) varsity sanctioned sport.

Athletes will not be considered for induction into the Athletic Hall of Fame until the expiration of five years after the athlete graduates or completes his/her eligibility. In order to be considered for selection to the HOF, an athlete must have a completed "information sheet" on file with the selection board.

Athletes for induction into the Hall of Fame will be judged solely on athletic performances as a student at Stephenville High School. No consideration will be given performances with a university or college, semi-professional or professional teams. Selections may be made posthumously.

To be considered for induction as a coach, the individual must have coached a major sport at the high school a minimum of five years, and must have posted a favorable record in that sport. No consideration will be given for records at other schools, but consideration may be given other attributes including leadership and character.

This year, area residents will have a chance to relive some of the storied past of Stephenville High School athletics on Oct. 10. There are 75 athletes and seven coaches already inducted. This annual event is sponsored by the Stephenville Lions Club and Stephenville Independent School District.
