E-T Staff Report

Aledo used nine hits, eight walks and a one-hit pitching performance to shut down Stephenville, 15-0, on the high school softball diamond Friday.

The Bees return to action at 5:30 p.m. today at McCleskey Field in the Stephenville City Park against Alvarado.

The Lady Cats scored early and often against sophomore pitcher Christina Murphy and the Beesí defense. Five runs crossed the plate in the first, one in the second and seven in the third. The mercy rule was invoked with two outs in the bottom of the fourth, after Aledo added its final two runs.

Four different Lady Cats had multiple RBI, and four scored multiple runs.

For Stephenville, which committed four errors in the field, the only thing preventing a no-hitter was a second-inning triple to left field by Murphy. The three-bagger came with no outs, but three consecutive Bees were set down on strikes to end the threat.

Allison Snow and Kim Driskill both reached in the first, via an error and a walk, respectively. A pair of strikeouts and a ground out, however, kept SHS off the board.

Stephenville dropped to 7-14-1 with the loss, and fell to 1-3 in District 8-4A.
