E-T Staff Report

Stephenville missed out on a chance to clinch a third-place finish in the District 8-4A volleyball race Friday night as host Granbury prevailed 25-16, 23-25, 25-20, 19-25, 16-14 in a five-set thriller at James Wann Sports Center.

The teams, who are both guaranteed a spot in the state playoffs, entered the game tied for third place. Stephenville held the head-to-head tiebreaker due to a three-set win at home during the first loop of district play. Now, however, Granbury holds a one game lead.

The Lady Pirates finish their season against Arlington Seguin, which has already secured the district championship, on Tuesday while the Honeybees travel to face Mansfield Timberview.

If Granbury wins or Stephenville loses, the Lady Pirates will finish third and the Honeybees fourth. If Stephenville wins and Granbury falls, they will finish the season tied for third.
