Stephenville took another big step toward vying for a district championship in soccer Friday night, knocking off San Angelo Lakeview, 4-2, on senior night at Lem Brock Field.
The Yellow Jackets' are 19-4 on the season and 6-1 in District 7-4A, setting up a potential district championship match at Abilene Wylie next Friday.
The score was deadlocked at 2-2 for the last 20 minutes of the first half and the first 20 minutes of the second until Shelby Sharp took used an assist from Antonio Soto to put Stephenville ahead for good.
Just one minute later, Logan Sharp added an insurance goal with help from German Chavarria, making it 4-2.
"We found a way to score two goals just one minute apart, and we've been able to do that to put games away a lot this year," said Stephenville head coach Ramsay Wright.
Another thing the Jackets have done a lot of is scoring early in contests.
Senior Colt Barkley stepped up in his last home game, firing his first assist of the season to Shelby Sharp, who scored to make it 1-0 just four minutes into the contest.
"That's been one our biggest strengths," said Wright. "We've been able to score early and put pressure on people."
A defensive error allowed Lakeview to tie the score just a minute later, but Chavarria took a pass from Mason Taylor and scored to make it 2-1 12 minutes into the game.
A second defensive slip-up allowed Lakeview to tie it up again before the Jackets shut LHS out in the second half.
Stephenville is idle on Tuesday before visiting Wylie in the district and regular season finale on Friday.
