The best teams play into the second and third weekends of March, but only the best players get to play at Saturday’s All-Star Classic in Mineral Wells.

The Chicken Express/Mineral Wells Chamber of Commerce All-Star Classic annually features 60 - 30 girls, 30 boys - of the best senior basketball players from high schools throughout north and central Texas.

Ten stars from the Cross Timbers area dot the All-Star rosters for Saturday’s 6:30 p.m. girls and boys double-header at Mineral Wells High School.

On the girls side, Trisha Tuck of Stephenville joins Dublin’s Tara Towns and April McCamey on the West roster. Both Tuck and Towns are taking their games to the next level. Tuck is set to play at Weatherford College, whose assistant coach, Renda Patraitis, will coach the East team Saturday. Towns has signed to compete in track and field at Tarleton State, where she also plans to play basketball for the TexAnns. The West All-Stars will be coached by Tommy Collins of Grayson County College.

One area star, Sydney Stone of Tolar, will suit up for the East girls team.

Six of the 15 boys on the West squad are from area schools, led by two each from Dublin and Lipan.

DeWayne Keith and Landen Miller will represent Dublin, while Lipan is sending Kyle Stephens and Cory Williams.

Other area participants include John Pugh of Huckabay and Kevin Smith of De Leon.

The West boys will be coached by Ranger College’s Rodney McConnell, a former assistant at Tarleton.

Others from just outside the Cross Timbers will also join in, including four girls - Alicia Fears, Mitzi Miller, Kara Kelso and Cheyenne Sellmeyer - and a boy - Bradley Thornton - from Santo, and one girl - Shelby Cathey - from Gordon.
