The 8th grade football teams from Henderson Junior High won two of three games against Acton last week.

The 8th Gold Jackets took an early lead on a 95-yard interception return for a touchdown by Emmanuel Olvera and never looked back in a 20-0 shutout.

The only offensive scores came in the fourth quarter when Alex Landa scored on a pair of 12-yard TD runs and Kameron Crew added a two-point conversion.

Coaches cited Landa, Ossie Kendall, Tyler Vest and Noah Hobbs as offensive standouts and Olvera, Crew, Terry Cook and Jayro Alamilla as defensive standouts.

The 8th White club overcame an early 6-0 deficits with touchdowns in the second and fourth quarters for a 12-6 win.

Chance Ables tied the game with a four-yard TD run in the second and Dakota Messer won it with a five-yard scoring jaunt in the fourth.

Josque Lopez, Stefon Landers and Tyler Shepherd all recovered Acton fumbles to lead the defense.

Other defensive standouts according to coaches were Efrain Balderas, Charles Soliday, James Coots and Quentin Whitfield, while offensive standouts were Messer, Shelton Stevens, Josque Lopez and Messer.

The 8th Jackets fell 28-14 despite a pair of TD passes from  Garrett Cole to B.J. Walker covering 28 and 9 yards. They also hooked up on one two-point conversion pass.

The defense forced three turnovers in the loss with fumble recoveries by Jordan Kilcrease and Garrett Phillips and an interception by Rusty Ford. They were the defensive standouts, while coaches cited Luis Luna and Branndon Bledsoe as offensive standouts.
