The eighth grade "A" Honeybees from Henderson Junior High went undefeated in pool play, but fell in both the semifinals and third-place match in bracket action in their home tournament last weekend.
The Bees were denied a spot in the championship match when they dropped two tightly-contested sets to Joshua, 22-25 and 20-25, in the semifinals.
In the third place match against Midway, the Bees dug themselves a whole with a 10-25 loss in the opening set, then went down in a 23-25 in the second.
Pool play featured HJH cruising past Bangs (15-6, 15-11), Mineral Wells (15-9, 15-12) and Copperas Cove (15-8, 15-4).
Robbi Elliott tallied 14 kills to lead the Bees in that department. She also had six points, three aces and two blocks while Madyson McLaury tallied nine kills to go with two points, a pair of aces and a block. Morgan Gibson had seven kills to go with eight points, three aces and a team-leading four blocks.
Breanna Wooley led the Bees in points with 16 to go with seven aces. Lyndi Graham led in aces with nine and finished with 13 points. Ryleigh Newton also had 13 points and tallied three aces and four kills, while Kelcee Jones recorded 11 points, seven aces and a kill.
Laurenn Gutierrez had eight points, three aces and three kills for HJH, Sierra Varnado collected five points, three aces and three kills and Taylor Woody added three points and four kills.
