Perhaps Amarillo Caprock celebrated its first district title in the history of its girls soccer program this season, but Stephenville made sure Caprock would not be celebrating a post season victory.
The Honeybees amassed six first-half goals and cruised the rest of the way, burying Caprock 6-0 in the opening round of the 4A girls playoffs at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls Tuesday afternoon.
"We played really well, we just dominated from the start," said Stephenville head coach Casey Weil, whose teams have advanced past the first round of the state playoffs in each of his four years at the helm of the program. "Our district was pretty tough and you could see today how much better we are now for playing against good teams a couple times each week."
Kayla Gregory scored three goals, all coming off assists from Caitlin Cline. Gregory then assisted Cline, her senior classmate, on her two goals.
"Those two were in a zone, just working together really well," Weil said. "Caprock didn't have any kind of answer for them."
Jackie Demetruk, another senior, added the sixth goal on a penalty kick.
Stephenville faces Canyon in the second round Friday. That match will also be at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls, but a kickoff time was not immediately determined Tuesday.
