SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Tarleton TexAnn tennis team finished the 2008 season ranked No. 3 in the Central Region behind Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word.

Northeastern State finished at No. 4, while East Central, Cameron, Central Oklahoma, St. Edward’s, Midwestern State, Southeastern Oklahoma, Dallas Baptist and St. Mary’s rounded out the poll.

?The Lone Star Conference was the deepest it has ever been, and the Central Region was equally as deep,” said Tarleton head coach Lance Drake. “Therefore, it was a great effort by the young ladies in our program to earn a No. 3 ranking.”

In singles action, Shannon Jordan finished the year ranked No. 9, while Chrissie Cooper is No. 11.

?Jordan has worked hard, and as a result finished her tennis campaign as one of the tougher competitors in the region,” said Drake. “I was proud of her to finish her career with a good season.

“Cooper is just a great fighter and competitor, and it was a great accomplishment for her to finish the season ranked both in singles and doubles,” said Drake. “She is looking to add more strength physically and end her career with a great senior campaign.”

Jordan and Adriana Jaskova end the season ranked No. 4 in doubles and Cooper and Melanie Zilles are ranked No. 8.

?It is usually a difficult and rare task to get two teams ranked in doubles, but this year ACU, UIW and Tarleton were all able to do it,” said Drake. “This demonstrates how important doubles competition is in Division II because these were the top three teams in the region.”
