The state-ranked Stephenville Honeybees defeated Godley in five sets Friday on the road, 20-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-21, 16-14 to raise their District 7-4A volleyball record to 4-1.
The Honeybees, No. 21 in this week’s Texas Girls Coaches Association's state 4A poll, are now 26-17 on the season. It was their 11th win in the past 12 outings.
It was the first game of the second round of district play, and gave the Honeybees a sweep over Godley — which had been ranked above SHS in the weekly poll before falling out.
Jayci Morton led the Honeybees in kills with 20, followed by Chloe Goodman with 15, Landri Withers with 11 and Alee McClendon with 10.
Gabie Lucero had the most digs with 25, while Morton added 18, Hannah Huckabee had 15 and Karlee Easterling had 14.
Huckabee and Easterling tied for the team lead in assists on the night, with 32.
McClendon led in blocked shots with four. Withers, Morton and Goodman had three each.
Godley won the junior varsity game, and SHS won the ninth grade A team contest.
SHS is scheduled for a second big showdown against district-leading and third-ranked Glen Rose (6-0, 30-5) on Parent Night Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Gandy Gym. The varsity match is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Honeybees will play on the road Friday at Mineral Wells (4:30 p.m. varsity start). They will conclude district play on Tuesday, Oct. 23c at Brownwood (6 p.m.). The top four teams in the final standings of the five-team district alignment advance to the playoffs.
